Many of you know that we are here in Dallas so that Matthew can finish his last bit of linguistics training before we head back to Papua New Guinea next summer. But what exactly does that mean?
We are living on the International Linguistics Center, where Matthew is attending classes at the Graduate Institute of Applied Linguistics (GIAL). Right now he is taking two courses that will further his knowledge, and help him as he works with Papua New Guineans to translate the Bible into their language. Over the next 9 months, he will take 4 more classes, and then complete his comprehensive exams to finish his Masters degree in Applied Linguistics with a concentration in Translation.
So Matthew spends his days in classes, and in the library studying. Here is his desk in the library that he has reserved for 6 months! He has really enjoyed being able to hang drawings that our girls have done for him!
Rachel spends her days with the girls, homeschooling Annie, and getting Lydia involved as much as possible! Annie has been asking to learn to read since close to her 4th birthday this past January, so that is the #1 goal for her. We are also doing a little science, math, and handwriting! The girls have been loving the science experiments and reading chapter books together! It is so exciting to see them learn and grow!
Lottie is growing like a weed, and loves to smile at people! We love to see her personality coming out as she gets older.
It has been wonderful to be here in Dallas. It is our third time here, and it has been great reconnecting with people we haven’t seen in a few years. Please be praying for Matthew as he finishes his classes and takes exams, and also for the girls as they are learning lots new things everyday!
My son lived in Dallas for 15 years and I loved visiting twice a year. I chose April and October, not Scott’s birth month of June. Learned that lesson the first two years he was there.
Where in Dallas are you?

Hey Mary…we are living just west of Duncanville and just south of I-20. You are smart to visit in April and October. Those months usually feel wonderful. June can be miserable.
